Mr. Omer Ozden (欧阳默) has been at the forefront of pioneering transactions between China and the United States for over two decades, working with such major companies as New Oriental, NetEase, Baidu, Alibaba, UrWork, Beijing Capital, Xinyuan and ZhenFund, as well as major groups in the U.S. such as Sam Zell (the largest individual real estate investor in the United States and inventor of the REIT), JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Baker & McKenzie, and Morrison & Foerster. He is an expert in finance, law, blockchain and technology, real estate, and doing business between China and the United States. As CEO of RockTree Capital.
He was formerly Partner at the New York office of Baker & McKenzie LLP, the largest law firm in the world, and lawyer at the Hong Kong office of Morrison & Foerster LLP, a leading Silicon Valley law firm, where he acted on a number of technology related venture capital investments and the first initial public offerings (IPOs) from China into the United States. He speaks Mandarin Chinese and is a member of the New York Lawyer’s Bar Association.
As a student conducting his graduate studies during the mid to late 1990s, Mr. Ozden was brought to Beijing’s Zhongguancun Hi-Tech Zone by the founders of New Oriental to be their international lawyer and help establish their international business, and also co-founded a technology incubator with Chinese and foreign investors during the very earliest days of China’s technology revolution. Mr. Ozden has a Bachelor of Commerce (Honors) majoring in Finance from the University of Toronto. He completed the International Joint Law Degree program graduating with both a Juris Doctor and LL.B from the University of Detroit Michigan and University of Windsor Ontario where he studied two law degrees at the same time in two countries. He also went to Taiwan in 1991 where as a young student, he studied Mandarin Chinese on diplomatic scholarship at National Taiwan Normal University.
Tariq JawadPartner - Managing Director of International M & A
Mr. Tariq Jawad is a Partner and Managing Director of International M & A of RockTree Capital, and he has over 20 years of cross-border investment and strategic business advisory experience as well as being an active angel investor in impact-focused startups.
Mr. Jawad is a frequent guest speaker at the Financial Times China-Arab Economic Dialogue and Latham & Watkins Silk Road Conferences. Mr Jawad is also a panelist in the Socrates Seminars at the Aspen Institute.
Mr. Jawad is also the former President of the Harvard Arab Alumni Association as well as the former President of Arte East http://arteeast.org a global platform for Middle East Arts. Tariq was also the youngest Board Member of the Board of Governors of the Arab-American Institute Foundation.
Mr. Jawad is a Graduate of Harvard University, Class of 1997 and fluent in Arabic, English and Italian, and has reached Intermediate Level in Mandarin and German.
Jonathan IpVice President, Legal and Corporate Development
Mr. Jonathan Ip is Vice President, Legal and Corporate Development at RockTree LEX and oversees the RockTree legal team. He has over a decade of experience in Canadian, U.S., U.K. and international securities offerings, mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, fund formation, corporate reorganization, corporate governance and corporate/commercial matters. Mr. Ip is licensed to practice law in the Province of Ontario.
Prior to joining RockTree LEX, Mr. Ip was previously a senior lawyer at Bennett Jones LLP, Canada’s leading energy law firm, and a Partner at Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP, Canada’s leading national business and IPO law firm. He was also formerly in-house counsel at Xplornet Communications Inc., a large rural broadband Internet provider.
Ryan CastellanoAssociate Vice President
Mr. Ryan Castellano is an Associate Vice President of RockTree Capital, and he has over four years of experience in cross-border transactions and investment. Mr. Castellano oversees global initiatives with specialized expertise in operations and management.
Prior to working with RockTree, Mr. Castellano worked as an Executive Assistant for a leading strategic business consultant, where he managed day-to-day operations in the United States, Europe and Australia. Prior to working as an Executive Assistant, Mr. Castellano was a Non-Commissioned Officer in the United States Marine Corps, assigned to 1st Battalion 6th Marines in Afghanistan where he fought alongside NATO Coalition Forces during Operation Enduring Freedom.
Gary GuoProject Director
Mr. Gary Guo is Project Director of RockTree Capital, he has more than 16 years professional experience amongst business development, market research and financial services. Mr. Guo is in charge of RockTree China cross-border business operation, project execution and client-related interactions.
Prior joining RockTree, Mr. Guo was Associate Director of North China at GBI, a leading healthcare industry data provider in China, and Senior Manager of Sales at Grail Research, a Monitor Group’s research arm, where he was responsible for business development of research solutions to assist financial service and healthcare industry clients solving business questions. Previously, Mr. Guo was Chief Representative of Gerson Lehrman Group Beijing, where he spent time serving investment and financial services industry clients with primary research solutions in commercial due diligence process.
Ms. Kazel Zhu is Attorney-at-Law at RockTree LEX. With a cross-cultural background and global vision, Ms. Zhu has been providing legal advice on cross-border transactions and fintech compliance since being admitted to practice law in New York, U.S..
Prior to joining RockTree LEX, Ms. Zhu was legal counsel to a U.S.-based financial group where she led the launch of a private master-feeder fund and several private debt offerings in the U.S. and Cayman Islands. She was also in charge of the compliance practice of the group’s registered investment adviser and broker-dealer entities. Ms. Zhu was previously an associate at Zhong Lun Law Firm, a top domestic law firm in China, where she focused on PE/VC fund qualification filings, deal structuring and fund formation for Chinese private funds and their offshore funds.
Mr. William Song is Attorney-at-Law at RockTree LEX. Mr. Song’s practice focuses primarily on the tokenization of securities, off-shore legal structuring and cross-border transactions.
Prior to joining RockTree LEX, Mr. Song was general counsel at a dual-listed Chinese group where he oversaw the legal department and managed legal matters in multiple jurisdictions. He was also a lawyer at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP, a top national business law firm in Canada, where he was involved in a number of technology transactions including IBM’s acquisition of Platform Computing. Mr. Song is licensed to practice law in the Province of Ontario.
Isaac ChenBusiness Development Director
Mr. Isaac Chen is Business Development Director at RockTree LEX. He is responsible for external business development and client relationship in the blockchain industry. Mr. Chen has more than 15 years experience in E-commerce and retailing, including more recently crypto-investments in China.
Prior joining RockTree LEX, Mr. Chen was Founder at B-Fund, a crypto fund with both foreign and domestic LPs and has invested in over 20 projects. Mr. Chen is also Co-Founder at 3W Coffee incubator. Previously, Mr. Chen was Regional Head of Meituan, an E-commerce giant recently listed in Hong Kong, overseeing business operations for 8 provinces in China, and Cooperation Manager at Nokia China’s Internet Service Department. Mr. Chen graduated from Peking University with a major in International Politics and Economics.

Ms. Freya Fu is Client & Marketing Director at RockTree LEX and works with our clients to manage cases and communications and leads marketing initiatives.
In 2015, Ms. Fu co-founded Woyoufan, a social network and technology company similar to Airbnb. Woyoufan’s investors included ZhenFund and Legend Star. As Co-Founder and Business Development Director of Woyoufan, Ms. Fu developed their business model to respond to market demands and customer needs.
In 2018, Ms. Fu co-founded a high quality organic healthy brand “PressJuice”. PressJuice is a top organic cold-pressed juice in China, and is taking priority to seek for healthiest ingredients from best sources.
Prior to joining RockTree LEX, Ms. Zhou worked at DTL Law Office in Bangkok, Thailand, the largest Sino-Thai legal services provider, where she gained a tremendous amount of experience in cross-border transactions and Chinese outbound investments.

Anita Qu is Administrative Director at RockTree LEX. She has over 10 years of professional experience in office administration, human resources, as well as finance management in multinational companies.
Prior to joining RockTree LEX, she was Office Director at Terex China Co., Ltd., a global manufacturer of lifting and material processing products and services, where her responsibilities cover offices & factories in five cities. She was also Administrative Manager of Sasol Synfuels International Ltd., an international integrated energy and chemical company.
